How To Guide: Getting To Ios

You’ve decided you want to come to Ios this summer! Now you need to figure out how to get there. Ios does not have an airport so you’ll have to use one of the other ways to get to the island, outlined here.

By Ferry

The most popular way to get to Ios is by ferry. Ferries depart from the nearby islands of Santorini, Naxos, Paros, and Mykonos, as well as from the mainland ports of Piraeus and Rafina in Athens. The journey time varies depending on your departure point, but it typically takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours from the islands and 4-8 hours from the mainland.

There are several ferry companies that operate services to Ios, including Blue Star Ferries, Hellenic Seaways, and SeaJets. Prices can vary depending on the time of year and the ferry company, but expect to pay around €20-€60 for a one-way ticket.

If you are taking multiple ferries while you are in Greece, look into the EUrail Greek Islands pass which will give you 4 ferry tickets in a 30-day span anywhere in Greece on Blue Star Ferries for around €80.

By Private Transfer

If you prefer a more luxurious way to travel, you can opt for a private transfer to Ios. This is a good option if you're traveling with a large group or if you have a lot of luggage. Private transfers can be arranged from any nearby airport or port, and the journey time is typically between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on your departure point.
